With recent banging sounds from my shed at night, I decided to catch the critter on my Night Vision Bullet Cam Lens. Its basically a video lens that is sensitive to IR. There are nine IR LED's surrounding the lens to light up the night with invisible infrared. I've caught the two possums living in my shed a week ago.
Last night, I've left the lens on and recorded the entire night. However, one of the possum pass through the lens view once. The rest of the night, they sat in the shed, peering out (the IR reflect brightly from the retina of their eyes). But they didn't come out to eat the apples and pears I put in the trap that is under the surveillance of the bullet cam lens. Yet, their eyes can be seen practically half of the night.
So I've been wondering if Possums can see infrared light. Maybe they didn't fall for the trap because the infrared light is shining on the trap. Anyone know whether possums can see infrared light?

I have recently setup some security cameras on my roof to spot possums. Some definately respond to the cameras, some just continue on, but others react very cautiously and will sit for some time, looking at the camera. Frightened or mesmerised?

Possums can definitely see the IR lights and mostly dodge them. So the night vision cameras turn out to be a good deterrent to possums. To make the deterrence more effective, you need to change the camera positions from time to time to keep the possums guessing all the time.
