Converting Sigma lens for Canon Digital

I have a sigma 28-200 Aspherical IS lens which I used to use with my 35mm canon camera.
I want to use the lens for my canon D20 however the lens is not compatible with digital cameras.
I called Sigma they quoted in excess of $200 for converting. Is there a way to do it yourself. Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks

I believe you have to replace a chip inside the lens. Sigma has the chip. I don't know any other ways to get the chip.
