Sigma 28-300mm DG SLR lens is a high performance, high quality zoom lens having focal length range of 28mm to 300mm. With zoom ratio of 10.7:1 and macro abilities, this lens is good for any kind of shooting with DSLR cameras. It is a light weight lens with compact size dimensions and has broad zoom whose aperture is good enough for different light settings.
Sigma DG is reasonably sharp at different shots, be it macro or higher. It has right color balance and its coating and design sufficiently helps in reduction of ghost like problems. It gives excellent results at night and is ideal for outdoor shooting. This lens has 15 elements in 13 groups with 3 aspherical lenses in the rear group and 1 aspherical lens in the front group that also includes special low dispersion glass elements.
Manufactured by Japanese company Sigma, 28-300mm DG SLR lens has less distortion level at wide end, corrections at all levels of aberrations and excellent results at short end. With maximum aperture range of f/3.5 to f/6.3, eight diaphragm blades, decent IQ and good saturation, this lens has nice clarity even at full zoom. It has minimum focal distance of 0.5m, angle of viewing from 75.4 to 8.2 degrees, 62mm filter and Repro ratio of 1:3.
Sigma DG SLR has robust build and very powerful zoom that produces good pictures in many areas. With full frame sensor, it has wide angle abilities and with cropped sensor, it has telephoto capabilities. Its front lens unit is designed in such a way that lens can work nicely with petal hood and polarized filter. The zoom lock functionality is good enough to protect the lens while on move or from its own body. Since internal lens group is accountable for changes in focus, design of Sigma DG lens is stable and has AF mounts support for Sigma, Nikon, Pentax, Canon and Sony. Lens just weighs 0.49 Kg and is good for wildlife shooting. Excellent customer service support is another plus with Sigma.
As far as drawbacks are concerned, this lens has bit noisy and slow auto focus and there are chromatic aberrations at longer focal lengths. Zoom is not very smooth and lens does not give nice results in low lighting conditions. Despite this, Sigma 28-300mm DG SLR lens is versatile with fantastic results for outdoor or good light conditions. Being lighter to carry, it is ideal for shooting while traveling and perfect value for money at about $450 price.
