The Nikon AF Nikkor 14mm f/2.8D ED

The Nikon AF Nikkor 14mm f/2.8D ED is the widest rectilinear prime model within Nikon's range. The optical lens consists of 14 elements in 12 groups, which includes a single ED glass element and two aspherical elements. The optical design works on a principle called "rear-focusing design" in which only the internal elements move during focusing. Due to this the overall lens size remains the same. This design enables a good stability while focusing. The barrel is made up of light weight material and has got a good finishing surface. The focusing ring is rubberized in order to give a smooth movement. The focusing mode can be controlled by an AF/MF ring which is located under the focusing ring. Features in order to prevent accidental switching of focusing has been provided by incorporating push-in knob which need to be depressed to enable the AF/MF ring. The AF speed is reasonably fast and the operation produces a moderate degree of noise. This super wide range lens weighs 670g with a display diameter of 3.4 inches and 3 inches length. The petal shaped metal hood design reduces the amount of stray light entering into the front element. The AF Nikkor 14mm does not have a dedicated Auto Focus motor and hence can be used with only those cameras which has got a focusing pin that can be locked into the screw base of lens mount. The Nikon AF Nikkor 14mm f/2.8D ED has a DOF scale with markings for f/4, f/8, f/11 & f/16. It also supports electronic aperture control. This feature can be enabled by switching the aperture ring to f/22 mode. The minimum focusing distance is 20cm. The AF Nikkor 14mm is a full frame lens. The lens has a dedicated aperture and focus ring. This feature enables it to get adopted to a number of alternative mounts. The AF Nikkor 14mm has a 114-degree picture angle which provides a good angle of view. It can provide a good image in even low light. The lens is fully compatible with many older Nikon SLR cameras and modern digital. It has got 7 numbers of diaphragm blades. The Nikkor includes a slip-on cap for protection of lens from dust and scratches. The AF Nikkor 14mm comes in a price range of 1,500 to 1900 dollars. It comes with a 12 months warranty.
