My Review of the Sigma 24-60mm F2.8 lens

Sigma 24-60mm F2.8 Review

The Sigma 24-60mm F2.8 EX DG Lense is one of sigma's latest professional lens creations. Although simple in design, the overall lens offers a stunning array of features which could leave even the most seasoned camera-buff in a state of euphoria. With it's specially designed lens curvature, the F2.8 is capable of shooting drastically sharper images than it's competitors within the same price point. I found this immediately, even after taking only a few images. Pictures which would have looked dull and unprofessional on a standard lens took on a whole new light when shot with the F2.8. The colors were vivid, and yet subdued enough to not detract from the surreal feeling of my nature photos. I was quite pleased.

I soon came to the realization that the F2.8 was also host to a wide variety of other surprising benefits.
Having been treated with a revolutionary lens coating, the F2.8 helps to drastically reduce common camera problems. I quickly found that all evidence of troublesome glare was completely gone in my photographs. In the past, I had spent time using photo-editing programs to deal with glare, but the F2.8 seems to completely eliminate this need. The lens coating also works shockingly well to eliminate red eye, and to remove the photo-wrecking yellow glow which sometimes surrounds people or objects in bright photographs. Since the quick elimination of glare has probably saved me hundreds of hours of re-takes and edits since I bought the lens, I'd say that that alone warrants a purchase, but the lens is also very inexpensive.

I picked mine up for around 400$, but in order to get a similar one from almost any other major brand, I would have had to spend somewhere around 600$. Ouch. Although the lens is of superior quality to almost any other that I've tried out, it does have it's flaws. While I personally never experienced this issue, this particular model has been known to start back-focusing after a time, a flaw which requires a warranty to be repaired. Not to tell you to be weary or anything, but I'd be rather upset if my lens suddenly failed to focus and I was forced to spend another 400$. All and all, ignoring the factory flaws, this is an excellent SLR lens. It works well, takes gorgeous photos, and is surprisingly inexpensive. If you're on a budget, I'd recommend it over all other lenses. If you're not, you might be able to find something better by tacking on a few hundred dollars, but is it really worth it?

Anyways, I give the Sigma 24-60mm F2.8 an 8.5 out of 10
