Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG MACRO -- The Perfect Zoom Lens

Sigma Corporation is a Japanese company well known for producing lenses, cameras and other photographic accessories. Sigma lenses are normally less expensive. Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG MACRO is one such product from Sigma.

The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG MACRO Lens get solidly built with a well specified lens. This is a standard zoom lens. The lens gets constructed with a combination of 13 elements in 14 groups. The size of this lens is 3.5 inches x 4.5 inches. The lens weighs 25.2 ounces (715g). The angle of view of this lens is 84.1 to 34.3 degrees. The lens gets designed to give a best performance with digital SLR cameras and 35mm film cameras. This lens contains two special low dispersion elements. It contains a glass mold aspherical and two hybrid aspherical lenses which provide an excellent image quality and a high level optical performance.

The lens has a minimum focusing distance up to 40cm. The maximum magnification ratio is 1:3.8. The dual focus system makes the handling of lens easy during auto focusing. Unlike other type of lenses, the dual focus system requires two different changes in the settings before the lens can be focused manually. It has a large focus ring for manual focusing. From 24mm wide angle to 70mm, it makes a medium telephoto and the lens provides a large F2.8 aperture for all focal lengths. This lens has a multi layer coating which reduces the harmful light due to reflections from the digital image sensor. The front of the lens does not rotate and so the petal type of hood and the circular polarizing filters can be easily used.

The performance of Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG MACRO has some flaws also. Sometimes the manual focus ring can be hard to turn. The ring gets loosen up. It is pretty uncomfortable to use the auto focus feature. At maximum aperture of F2.8, it has a poor image quality. The Sigma's diameter gets changes at various points resulting in hard-edge transitions.

Despite these flaws, the performance of this lens is splendid. The corresponding AF mounts are Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Sony/Minolta and Pentax. If you are considering a new lens with decent features and at budget friendly prices then you have to go with Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG MACRO.
