Sigma 8mm F3.5 EX DG Circular Fisheye -- The High Resolution Lens

Sigma Corporation is a Japanese company best known for cameras, lenses, flashes and other photographic accessories. The Sigma products are produced in the Aizu factory in Bandai, Fukushima, Japan. Sigma is well-known for lenses and accessories that are compatible with cameras produced by other companies. Sigma launched a new lens called Sigma 8mm F3.5 EX DG Circular Fisheye Lens.

The lens gets constructed with a combination of 11 elements in six groups. The dimension of the lens is 73.5 X 68.6 mm (2.9 X 2.7 inches) (diameter X length). The focal length of this lens is 8 mm. The lens minimum aperture is f/22. The maximum aperture will be f/3.5. The closest focusing distance is 14 cm (5.5 inches). The maximum magnification ratio offered by this lens is 4.6x. It includes six diaphragm blades in it. The lens covers wide angle of view and in case of sphere it covers with four shots handheld.

When this lens get attached to a 35 mm film SLR camera or a full frame digital camera the lens produces circular images with an angle of view of 180 degrees. The specially designed fisheye allows maximum creative expression. This circular fisheye auto focus lens is digitally optimized. It incorporates an auto focus system for accurate focusing which might be difficult through the camera's viewfinder due to large depth of field. The Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass element is present in this lens which provides effective colors during shooting at any situation.

A gelatin filter holder is available at the rear part of the lens. Sigma 8mm F3.5 EX DG Circular Fisheye Lens is a perfect fit for photographers using computer stitching software that requires circular fisheye images as the input and they produce stitched panoramic images as output. It produces a quantifiable angle/area relationship and so this lens can be widely used for scientific applications such as vegetation distribution of the rain forest canopy or solid angle measurements of cloud distribution over the sky.

It contains a smooth manual focus ring. The lens has a super multi-layer coating and so it avoids the flare and ghosting. No vignetting is seen in this lens. The chromatic aberration (CA) gets controlled much better in this lens. The corresponding mounts of this lens are Sigma, Nikon and Canon. This circular fisheye lens is best suitable for low light conditions, indoor shooting and at dusk. The lens weighs 400 grams (14 ounces).
