Ultra Telephoto Sigma 50-500mm f4-6.3 DG SLR Lens

Sigma 50-500mm f4-6.3 DG SLR is a zoom lens with focal length ranging from 50 mm wide to 500 mm ultra, aperture from f/4 to f/6.3 and 10x of zoom ratio. It is an ultra telephoto lens with enlargement ratio of 1:5.3 and 4/3 lens mount and image format. Sigma 50-500mm is black in color, designed optimally for DSLR cameras and fits well with Pentax, Konica Minolta, Canon, Sigma and Nikon-D cameras like D40 and D60.

This lens can be used as 140-700mm by adding 1.4 x APO Tele-converter or as 200-1000mm by adding 2x EX DG Tele-converter. Lens has 9 aperture blades, 20 elements in sixteen lens groups and four pieces of Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass elements. These SLD elements provide sufficient color aberration correction and output high quality optical performance. There are seven groups in the lens zoom system that provides high magnification of up to 1:5.2. Lens is also provided with new multi layered lens that is well suited for color balancing and reducing ghosting and flare problems.

With angle of viewing from 46.8 to 5 degrees, Sigma 50-500mm DG lens has Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) for Auto Focus that is very silent in its operation. This HSM motor also provides full manual focus and AF functionality at high speed. Lens has minimum aperture of 22 and minimum focal distance support of 100 cm to 300 cm. It has triple cam focus mechanism at rear that not only provides precision quality at all focal ranges but also allows circular polarized filters due to non rotating front element. This rear focus system can support petal lens hood to prevent the degradation of image quality under different light conditions.

Sigma DG lens has a zoom locking switch that helps in removing Zoom Creep in tilting condition during transportation. Lens weighs 1.842 Kg, has diameter of 3.7 inches, length of 8.6 inches and filter size of 86 mm. Its tripod mount is designed in such a way that it is easy to hold and carry the lens without adding any real weight to lens. Tripod bush is detachable and rotating and lens is easy to operate. Sigma DG SLR provides easy handling, especially at lower focal lengths like 50 mm and is suitable for sports, bird and aircraft photography.

Available at price of about 900 British pounds with two years of warranty, lens is a good bet for both standard as well as super telephoto focal range and excellent for amateur photographers.
