Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135mm f/2.8 Lens

This Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135mm f/2.8 lens has become my lens of choice for my personal life allowing me to freeze in time and space visually stunning images of my children outside playing in the yard. It has also become the gold standard for which I judge all lenses that provide length and the ability to freeze real action in time and space, it is as if you have a pause button on real life.

The f2.8 provides all the coverage of 70-200 mm and with a crop camera allows a range 110-300 mm. I have heard other users comment on their dislike for this lens in full frame. It has been my experience that the Tokina provides just a much depth and clarity as the Canon 70-200L.

The lens gives you top shelf quality for your considerable investment of $580-$780. The contrast is superb and the images are crisp and sharp and the color perspective is above average. For me, it has lived up to every bit of its hype in its ability to capture moving targets with pristine clarity.

In my professional life I use this Tokina Lens on my Cannon EOS to cover High School baseball for my local newspaper. Important factors that I had to consider were: ease of use, it had to be mechanically sound and durable, temperature and weather considerations, ability to capture moments as they are happening.

The durability and soundness of its mechanics has been a real blessing. The body is metal and solid but very smooth and zoom adjust easily. I have hit, kicked and dropped my bag and had other lenses not take the wear and tear that happens at a baseball park. This lens has been a workhorse and just keeps coming back for more.

The weather considerations are pretty straight forward, I cover baseball and sometimes the wind and rain and temperature are something you have to contend with. For the lens the rain was the biggest worry and with the water proof optical coating it takes that concern off the table.

Ease of use was a concern as sometimes I would need to get several shots in a narrow time frame. The Tokina one touch focus is a godsend. I can snap several shots of players running, fielding and diving without removing my eye from the viewfinder.

I love the fact that I do not have to change lenses. The Tokina f/2.8 has the length and clarity to precisely track outfielders running for a deep line drive and I has the precision and sharpness to give provide a visual account of a bang-bang play at first base with a base runner.

Pros:

  • Exceptional optical quality, this workhorse is durable, water proof, easy to use, Precise with color and clarity.
  • It provides a crystal clear pause button on high-speed real life action.
  • It smoothly operates and provides superior image quality that rivals the Canon 70-200L.
Cons:
  • Quality not as sharp when lighting is a consideration
  • the weight a little heavy; almost 30 oz.
  • The focus a little too deliberate which affects the speed of focus.

The Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135mm f/2.8 is one of the best lenses I have ever used in my life. It is one of a kind of lens provided by Tokina. With Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135mm f/2.8 you get really amazing pictures which you are going to remember for your lifetime.

It is one of the best I have seen in this range. It has got a 50-135 mm focal length with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and a minimum aperture of f/32. With its new multipurpose zoom, Tokina offers a standout performance in a very hot field. The pictures taken from Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135mm f/2.8 are very lively
, sharp, crisp and very good pictures with great contrast. Now other than these
qualities let me first tell you certain dimensions and basics of this lens. Max
imum outer diameter of the lens is 3.07 in.(78.2mm), Dimensions are 3.07 in. (78
.2mm) X L 5.32 in. (135.2mm) and the weigt is approximately 29.8 oz. (845g).

The Tokina 50-135mm f/2.8 AT-X 535 PRO DX Lens is a large-aperture telephoto zoom lens which makes your imaging experience really great. This Tokina is excellent for many types of photography, including lowlight, landscape, action, portrait and any other type of photography. It is one of the best as I said earlier in its range because of some of its amazing features. This lens is very light weight and is also very compact as compared to other models in the same range. The lens also features SD glass lens elements in order to correct for chromatic aberrations and also to focus all the colors as they are in the film plane. One other very good feature of this phone is is the water proof covering over the lens which makes it really very good for all type of weather conditions. Other than this there are features like a built-in tripod collar and One-touch focus clutch mechanism for fast switching between auto focus and manual focus modes. It has also got a very tough body with full metal construction which makes it quite durable. I have also droped my Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135mm f/2.8 a few times but still it has not damaged any of its parts.

This lens is very interesting for more travel shots, I look at Flickr shots with this lens and its a good choice for DSLR cameras. All in all this is a very good camera in its range. You just need to pay some where around $600 to $ 800 to get Tokina AT-X 535 PRO DX AF 50-135mm f/2.8. It does have certain negatives also like its AF action is quite slow as compared to other in same range but looking at its good features which overshadow its negative points it is worth to give a try to this lens.
