Anyone know the difference between the Hoya R72 and RM72 infrared filter? They seem to be interchangeable . . . at least for online purchase. I ordered the RM72 filter, but received the R72 filter.

I contacted a THK Photo Products Technical Service Representative. He said, "There is no difference between the two filters."
I searched around THK Photo Products and HOYA CORPORATION USA Optics Division. It seems that RM72 doesn't exist.
The Hoya's optic division site describes the difference between R, IR, RM, and RT as:
"They include the R and IR series, which sharply cut off part of the infrared, the RM series, which smoothly and gradually cut them off, and the RT series which band-pass the infrared region." - Infrared Transmitting Filters

Sorry, George, the RM72 does indeed exist and is currently the only 720nm Hoya sells. The R72 has been replaced by the RM72.
Thank you Chieh Ching for finding the answer to your own question -- I was looking for the same thing. Rather than spending $180 for a new RM72, I will now spend $130 for a new R72 on eBay!
