Canon Releases EDSDK 2.0 (2961-3040)

Canon Digital Camera Software Developers Kit Update Information

Effective June 4, 2007, general distribution of Canon EOS Digital Camera Software Development Kit (EDSDK) Version 2.0 for Windows 2000, XP and Vista and Canon EOS Digital Camera Software Development Kit (EDSDK) Version 2.0 for Mac OS X (10.3.9 and later for PowerPC, 10.4.7 and later for Intel Mac) has begun for registered developers residing in our sales area. This new SDK supports EOS Digital SLRs with DIGIC II or DIGIC III processors exclusively. The list of supported models includes: EOS 400D/Digital Rebel XTi, EOS 350D/Digital Rebel XT, EOS 30D, EOS 20D/20Da, EOS 5D, EOS-1D Mark II N, EOS-1D Mark II and EOS-1Ds Mark II. The EOS-1D Mark III has been added. Support for Vista has been added to the Windows version. Also, a RAW Conversion function has been added to the Macintosh version of EDSDK 2.0.

EDSDK 2.0 is not compatible for applications that require connection via interface cable with early EOS Digital SLRs including the EOS D30, D60, 1D, 1Ds, 10D and 300D/Digital Rebel. Please continue to use RC-SDK 8.4 with those models. For more information, be sure to read the EDSDK API Programming Reference bundled with the EDSDK download.

Even though you are a registered developer, it is still necessary to submit a new SDK application in order to confirm your acceptance of the SDK License Agreement for EDSDK 2.0. To submit a new SDK application, please visit our website at:

Canon Digital Camera Software Developers Kit General Information

(PLEASE NOTE: EDSDK 2.0 will be available as of June 4, 2007, but the SDK general information page on our web site may not be updated until later in the week. Do not let this stop you from submitting a new SDK application if you wish to download EDSDK 2.0.)

Thanks for developing software for Canon Digital Cameras!

Best Regards,

Attention PowerShot Software Developers:

Neither PS-ReC SDK 1.1.0b nor CD-SDK 7.3 for PowerShot digital cameras is being updated at this time. Both of these versions will remain available to registered developers through our password-protected web site.

As a reminder, PowerShots A410, A420, A430, A450, A460, A530, A540, A550, A560, A570 IS, A610, A630, A700, A710 IS, S10, S20, SD10, SD20, SD30, SD40, SD200, SD300, SD400, SD430, SD450, SD500, SD550, SD600, SD630, SD700 IS, SD750, SD800 IS, SD850IS, SD900 and SD1000 do not support remote control or video out operation via the SDK. Basic downloading for these models is possible via WIA on the Windows platform and Image Capture on Mac OS X. The PowerShots G7, S3 IS, S80, A640 and A620 can be accessed via PS-ReC SDK 1.1.0b, while the PowerShot S2 IS and many older models can be accessed via CD-SDK 7.3. Going forward, Canon Inc. informs us that they plan to limit SDK support for future PowerShots to the top-of-the-line A-series model and higher models excluding the Digital ELPH series. The next PS-ReC SDK (which will support PowerShot S5 IS) is expected this summer, but we do not expect any further versions of
the CD-SDK. As always, registered developers will be informed as new SDKs become available.
