Does anybody have experience with starting/stopping video recording (e.g. on the 5D Mk2 or 7D) via the API in the EDSDK? Presumably it's possible since Canon's software manages it, but for the life of me, I can't see how to do it.

Just a little bump here since I have the same problem and see no response here since the original post of Jan 2010.
I notice the SDK has a drive mode of 4 that is supposed to be video, but the 7d doesn't go into video via the drive mode selection.
Does anyone know how to activate the video mode programmatically?
I am building an application (Visual Studio, C#) for controlling the Canon EOS family.
The 7D supports video *from the body* but the SDK doesn't seem to have a way to start and stop it from a program. The SDK allows you to activate and release the shutter button, but video mode on the 7D is *not* a drive mode as described in the SDK and does *not* operate off off the shutter button.

Does anyone know how to put the 7D into a video mode that DOES operate from the SHUTTER button, which I would mean I could control it from there

I am having the same problem-- with the 5dii, not only can I not start and stop video using the SDK, but when I create any remote control module, the on-camera video start and stop button is disabled. Again, this on-camera video recording disabling is not a problem when running EOS utility. Any ideas?

Did anyone succeed yet?
No luck with a 60D on my side with EDSDK 2.11, unless I switch to video mode manually using the mode dial.
The question is how to switch remotely just like EOS Utility does.
