Dissecting SmartMediaYou still have the chip? Did u make sure the low level formatting wasnt just corrupted? Mine died the same way, a quick zap with a program i downloaded, and its fixed like new. Nice site.
Andy
Hi, Andy, what program did you use to zap the memory card? Where can I download it? I like to give it a try.

The IC to CircuitBoard interface is one of the largest impediments to shrinking. The IC is still smaller than that. Also, if you were to open the SD card, you would find similar. Typically the IC is something like 5% of the space, the wire/lead out is the majority of the space.

I can see that the card could be made smaller. BUT you have cut open a say 2004 smartmedia card. In case you were to open say a 2001 card then you may find that the memory chip was much bigger than the contact surface

I used an old Zio! card reader I got off Ebay for $7 and smprep.exe to fix two cards I used in my old mp3 player that trashed the card's low level header. Now I can use them in my camera again. jm Thanks for the tip. I might give that a try. Would it work with any memory card reader? Or specifically the Zio?? Chieh Cheng
