Some thoughts on the Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8-4 zoom lens

Do any of you know anything about the 28-105 sigma lens: Sigma 28-105mm f/2.8-4.0 Aspherical

The Sigma 28-105 is good for the money. It is a bit soft. I like using it for portrait and B&W photos.

I like it with B/W because I do not like tack sharp B/W photos. With the Ilford HP5+ 400 B/W film, it creates a dreamy effect if you well expose the shadow details and over-expose the high-lights. The large aperture is excellent for this type of work.

The zoom ring is smooth, but too tight for my taste. And it has a non-rotating front, which is much easier to work with. It includes a flower-shaped lens hood.

AF is slower than Canon USM. (What isn't?) Sometimes it hunts. I assume it is because the lens is a bit soft. But it seems to AF better in low-light compared to my Canon 24-85 lens. probably due to more light entering the lens aperture.

on the sigma but what about the distortion... I also noticed that the sigma is a 77 filter size...does this mean that the built in flash on my A2 will not work...will the 77 size lens block the flash?? I just don't know what zoom

It is a 72 mm thread. I find the build-in flash generally useless on any of my lens (other than my 50 f/1.8). It is only useful for fill-in flash with ambient lighting, or putting gleams in your subject's eyes.
