Teleconverter Magnification Comparison

While using my accessory teleconverter lenses, it seemed to me that I am not getting the magnification that the manufacturers claimed for the lenses. Therefore, I decided to compare each accessory teleconverters and test whether their magnification specification is correct. I used the Panasonic PV-GS50S MiniDV Palmcorder and a SD card to shoot all of the pictures used in the comparisons. All of the photos are taken from the same distance from the subject using different accessory lenses, while the camcorder is set to full zoom at 10x. This is just a comparison article; full reviews of each of these lenses are available elsewhere on this web-site.

Native lens on the camcorder produced this image. This is the baseline for our comparison.

Olympus 1.45x Tele Conversion Lens produced this image. The magnification looks identical to the Olympus C-160 1.45x H.Q. Converter below.

Olympus C-160 1.45x H.Q. Converter produced this image. The magnification looks identical to the Olympus 1.45x Tele Conversion Lens above.

Olympus C-210 1.9x H.Q. Converter produced this image. The magnification is stronger than the 1.45x teleconvertes.

Sima SLS-20 2x Telephoto lens produced this image. The result is shocking . . . because it produces less magnification than the two Olympus 1.45x teleconverters above. It looks like this is a 1.4x teleconverter, rather than a 2x teleconverter!
