Are my Canon F1 SLR Lenses Compatible with the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT?

I'm thinking about getting a Canon Rebel XT, and was wondering if my collection of 11 lenses from my Canon F1 will work, or am I Just out of luck.

Dave, the Canon F-1 uses FD lenses. The Digital Rebel XT (350D, Kiss Digital N) all use the newer EOS lenses. So the FD lenses in your collection will not fit directly on the Canon EOS cameras.

However, there are FD to EOS adapters for the purpose you described. There are two types. The one without a lens element in the middle will allows your lens to fit, but will not focus to infinity. Great for macro work, however. The second type has a lens element to correct for infinity focus.

Adorama/Amazon sells one version of this adapter (though I'm not sure which one):
Adorama Canon FD Lens/EOS Body Adapter - Amazon
Adorama Canon FD Lens to EOS Body Adapter - Adorama
They are, however, on back-order.

The following description on adorama's web site makes me wonder if it is the no lens element version, but I don't know:

"Allows the use of Canon lenses with an FD mount to be used on Canon EOS camera bodies. The lenses will meter o.k. but will only focus MANUALLY. There is a 1.3x magnification factor and requires a one stop increase in exposure."

You might also be able to find some on ebay . . .

Thank you very much for the lead. I have a fortune tied up in my F1 collection and would sure like to put it to use with my new 8Mb Rebel Xt.

Thanks again,

I'm glad I could help. Let us know what the adapter is like and how it works with your old lens and new camera.
