Remote trigger for D80

Hi - I'd like to buy or make a remote trigger for the D80 so I can fire the camera when holding it in a stroboframe flash bracket. The IR remote is no good for this purpose (bad shape and hard to attach to the frame), and the other wired release isn't shaped like much of a "trigger". Is there a device to adapte a mechanical release to the new nikon remote pinout? How about a better remote release than nikons mc1 that is shaped like a plunger? Is there a pimout I can use to try to fire the camera?
