Olympus Stylus Tough 7010

Sleek, silver, and small seems to be the prevailing design theme for Olympus's newest digital camera, the Stylus Tough 7010. This addition to Olympus's the Stylus series has a lot of promising features that should get both amateur and professional photographers alike excited.

Beneath the exterior of this inch-thick camera lies an optical zoom lens capable of up to 7x. This affords the lens a focal length with a much greater range than that of its predecessor, the 7000 model. Since the 7010 model lacks a viewfinder, the 2.7-inch LCD display is the user's only choice for reviewing and framing an image. However, there is a 230,000 dot resolution in the display which is the same amount offered in the 7000 model presented in a smaller display.

The lacking features of the LCD display shouldn't discourage potential buyers from purchasing this camera. There are still many redeeming features. Take the Dual Image Stabilization, for example. It presents a genuine attempt at mechanical image stabilization to prevent blur, an attempt that turns out to be very successful. Dual Image Stabilization is only half of that effort to reduce blurring in digital photographs. The second half of that effort comes from Digital Image Stabilization. In other words, this is a setting that makes the camera raise its ISO sensitivity as well as image noise and shutter speed in order to halt motion. Another appealing feature about this camera's ISO sensitivity is its great range. It starts at a minimum ISO 64 and goes all the way to ISO 3200, a great leap from the 7000 model's ISO maximum of only 1600.

For all the budding and aspiring photographers who are just getting a good understanding of the fundamentals of digital photography, the 7010 offers a lot of help in helping to capture the best photograph possible. This assistance is especially seen with the Intelligent Auto mode. It automatically selects the mode from the available options such as Landscape, Portrait, Macro, Sports, or Night Portrait. Users of this camera maintain control over their photos without having to bother with learning about the technical side of photography.

Editing photos is possible as with the 7000 model with a feature called Beauty Mode. This allows a user to smooth blemishes and wrinkles or soften shadows, making the photo look more professional. Done in-camera, the feature Beauty Fix Mode allows a user to touch up photos after they've been taken. Dramatic Eye, Clear Skin, and Sparkle Eye are but a few of the photo re-touching options available.
