I got a used Olympus E-410, is it possible to get FREE software for downloading my pics---and where?

You don't need any software. If you go to page 85 in the fine manual, you will see the menu 'USB Mode'. If you set this to 'storage', the camera will appear as a removable device when you connect it to the computer via the USB cable. You can just copy the files wherever you want. Your OS may have menu items that will automatically invoke a program or copy files to a given directory when you plug in a camera.
The E-410 came with the Master software that will do the copying and provide some software editing as well. Master is documented in pages 84-87 of the manual.
Olympus also has new software (ib) that I believe is freely available, that does things like help automate sharing photos, etc.
