controlling a camera witha computer

is there any way to hook up a camera to an infrared beam that whenever the beam is broken it takes a picture and relays it to my computer even if its a cheap digital camera i want to make like 5 of them were doing a monitering system so i dont want to spend alot of money on cameras i just need cheap ones is it even possable to take one of those disposable digitals and make it so it doesnt save them just sends them to my computer plz email me if u got any ideas oh and the infrared system is 3 dollers for the input and output ir so that is one of the cheapest parts but is there any way to make the system wifi to send images to my computer
