I am wondering if you might know how to hack a digital camera so that in play mode the camera would not automatically switch off until it was totally out of battery power? Thanks.

If you have already set the camera to not
sleep and it still times out, it may be
better to run the camera from external
battries using the power jack.
The problem is that the camera may be
start to become eratic and save messed up
picture files when the voltage gets low
and the record function draws more power
than just being ready to take a picture.
