hey
thanks for the tip on tricking an EOS camera into using a teleconverter attached to a telescope! i had just tried this evening using my new 1.4 teleconverter with EOS cameras attached to my scope and couldn't get the camera to work except with the teleconverter off. gave up and searched the net and found your site straight away. just tried your tip indoors with success so I know it will work next time i get an evening to try it.
thanks!

I was wondering why my M42 adapter on an old Chinon lens was not working with the teleconverter. Thank you!

The 300D (Digital Rebel or Kiss Digital) doesn't have that switch. It is smart enough to work with both automatic and manual lenses. I suspect that all of the new Canon EOS camera would have the new "smarts".
I made this observation just a week back. Had planned on updating the article . . .

I think the photos the person was asking about are the photos of the moon that are mentioned in the article. I'd like to see them too, for that matter.

One of the moon shot can be seen in the "Mirror lock-up in night exposure using a camera without the mirror lock-up feature" article. The rest of them, including real close-ups of the craters on the moon, are in my negative/print archive and haven't been scanned.

Try applying tape (clear or electrical) over the contacts inside the camera body.
Digital Rebel + Kenko 2x MC4 + Sigma 500mm Mirror Lens
Error 01 w/out tape, works great with tape!

Hey, thanks A LOT for that tip!!!!
I was just getting frustrated, because my D30 won't work with my manual lenses, when I found your hint about that switch. I tried it and it worked immediately, I think I'll modify an m42 converter for secure use with my camera... Again: THANKS A LOT FOR THAT HINT!!!!
kind regards

use a modified face plate from a number 12 extension tube (to replace a T-connection like face plate) on the TC in order to by-pass the switch.
Canon may even have in stock a face plate they sell to replace damaged face plates on lens.

Great article! Even works fine for my new Canon 450D - withouth any soldering nor (destructive?) manipulation.
Thousand Thanks!
