Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D - Ultra Sharp Lens

Nikon AF NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8D" : Ultra Sharp Lens

Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8 D is getting popular because of its weight and low price. Despite its very low price the lens is of high quality. It is very sharp. It is compatible with every nikon auto or manual focus. It works great on FX and DX digital as it is full coverage FX lens. It is greatly compatible with the Nikon D3 and D300. This lens was launched in 2002 and replaced the non D version. Till 2007, up to 400,000 of such lens has been produced.

It is constructed of 6 elements divided in group of five. The focal distance is 0.45 meter which causes the object magnification of 1:6.6. The size of the filter is only 52 mm and the lens is highly compact. The weight is only 155 gram. It is equipped with 7 aperture blades.
The outer barrel of the lens is made up of polycarbonate. The small focus ring operates smoothly. You can easily use polarizer as the front element does not rotate. There is no internal AF motor, therefore camera has to use the slotted drive screw which is camera operated. Therefore, Af operation will produce sound. The speed of the AF is good on D200.

It operates sharply on D3 and is contrasty in the center of the aperture. Spherical aberration makes it less contrasty in the corners on D3. This lens becomes sharper at f/2, but all are the same by f/4. The faster lens is costly and has more distorted. This lens is very fast on every camera and on full turning the AF screw, the lens gets focused from infinity to 1.8 meter.

The auto focus feature is not available on D40 or D40 x. Look for the electronic focus confirmation dot in the lower left of the finder after turning the focus ring. This lens is free of every distortion and it is almost invisible in film days. It can be noticed in the digital when the images are zoom to 1.8 meter.
If this lens is not so costly it does not mean the quality is low. It is a very simple lens and uses classic and optical design. This 50 mm lens do not cut corners in the image as done by A$110 zoom lens.
This lens is very sharp and sensitive to day light. The only thing is that you have to move back and forth to compose your image. If you are searching for fast aperture and sharp lens, then this lens will be the best choice.
