remote flash trigger

hey i was looking around online to find out how to make a remote flash trigger via radio freq. i have a canon 20d and am curious if you have any links on how to go about doing such a task? ive seen a few sites that claim you can use rc cars, doorbells, and cordless phones to send the signal but i havent found any real concrete evidence of making your own.. if you ahve any insight or any further links i could check out please let me know! i definitely cannot afford radio slaves! wow. haha thanks for the info!

there are radio flash triggers for sale on ebay... but I had an idea of splitting all the 5 canon terminals into their own separate channels so we can control ETTL2 wirelessly without the need for line of sight... the only problem is that I am clueless when it comes to electronics.
