battery charger

i have a sony cybershot p-100.
this camera as you know uses a proprietary battery, sony np-fr1
i have priced wall chargers in the $49 to $79 range, but would like to build or hack a charger for this 3v battery, as i sometimes reside in places without wall
sockets ( third world)
and where the available socket is not in a place where
i would care to leave my camera.
i have a background in electronics, wondering if you could offer suggestions/links
