macro photography with a desktop scanner

I was looking up some information on macro photography and magnification to 1:1 and beyond when I found this web page:

Macro Photography Using a Flatbed Computer Scanner (Mini-FAQ Macro Photography, Frugal, mostly Digital)

It outlines the idea of taking 3-dimensional objects and photograph them on the flat-bed scanner. Then provides tips for an optimal experience. Even compares different scanner technology (CCD, CIS) for macro photography. It was a fun read.
