CCD-TRV66E Chews Hi8 Tapes, But Not Video8 Tapes

I have a Sony Handycam CCD TRV66E. It began chewing my Hi8 tapes and I took it to Sony for an estimate. They told me that the LS carriage needs replacing but the price is as dear as buying a new camera. However, I've just noticed that regular Video8 tapes will play and record with no chewing or error messages???

Any reason??

thanks

The surface of video tapes are composed of different lubrication. Every manufacturer use a different solution. It's possible that your video head or rollers has deteriorated to the point where the lubrication no longer works. Or maybe there are some deposits that is incompatible with the lubrication.

Are your Hi8 tapes and Video8 tapes the same brand and different brand?
