You'll have to use the Firewire cable.

Thxs for the informative info. Is there any way I can download my videos from my vacation on to my Mac PowerBook G4 so I can edit in iMovie.

I just looked at the compatibility chart at the Sony site and it says that the USB video streaming is not applicable to a Mac.

Am I out of luck?

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, Charley. The only way to transfer the movie to your PowerBook is to use the Firewire cable, not the USB cable.

I just spent a couple hours at the Genius Bar at the Apple store. I have a Sony DCR-HC36 that I was using a FireWire 800 to download my videos. They determined that the cable wasn't working properly because although the camcorder was recognizing the cable, it kept indicating IN instead or OUT. We changed to a FireWire 400 cable and video started to download however iMovie 08 continually crashed on my MacBook Pro. I've been hunting around forums and found that many other people are experiencing the same thing.

The day before going to Apple, I called Sony and they said they don't have anything to help with compatibility for imovie 08. If anyone knows if previous versions of iMovie were compatible I'd appreciate the insight. Also if you know of any 08 fixes or patches to make it work that would be fantastic!

Thanks,
Lauren
