Sony DCR-HC48 Firewire Does not Appear to Be Working

I have a Sony DCR-HC48 and it seems like the firewire port may be dead (I'm not sure if it's the base or the cam) I connect it up, the computer never shows it under system devices. The cam does seem to recognize that it's connected be cuase I get the DV In and DV OUT (when I play) on the LCD. Any help would be great, I 'd even fix it myself if I knew what to do.

Thanks in advance,

Mark
