"Moisture Condensation" message on Sony HDR-HC1

Hey Everyone,

I need your help!

I have a Sony HDR-HC1 and started having trouble with the "Moisture Condensation" message over a year and a half ago. After trying a blow dryer on it, I opened it up and kept it in a dry space... Fast Forward, It has been sitting open on a shelf (wrapped in a hand towel to keep dust out) for well over a year. I got a fresh battery and tried turning it on yesterday and it still has the problem. SInce yesterday, I have tried the hair dryer again for 1.5 minutes, I cleaned the sensor with an anti-fog cloth and a small amount of alcohol. I also tried removing the primary battery (I haven't been able to find any small hidden batteries and would love to know where they are and if there even are any secondary batteries), and giving the camera a solid whack on the bottom.... multiple whacks actually. Nothing I've tried has worked, and I need any advice you can give!

To summarize, are there any secondary batteries on the HC1, and where are they located? Is there any way to fix the moisture condensation problem that I didn't list above? Any other tips or advice?

Thank you,
Trevor

I wish I could help you - I've had the SAME ERROR for 1 year. We used to get it periodically, it has been permanent since May 2010 - happened right as we arrived to Disneyland (of course). I've tried cleaning the sensor head inside as some sites suggest, I've tried the blow dryer, keeping it in a super dry place, etc. Nothing has worked. Hubby gave up after a week of searching for solutions and ordered a new recorder. This one would be perfectly fine - IF this error would go away!

Good luck.

Have you tried resetting the camera (tiny button on panel behind LCD on side - use a paperclip to press)?

This worked for me.

Good luck!
