bad quality video download with USB on Windows Vista

Can anyone help. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and have a Sony Handycam DCR 30 (Model Number DCR PC105E) and cannot find drivers anywhere. I have followed the instructions and installed a USB driver, which enable the camera to work through Ulead Videostudio 10, but the picture is so bad, it's unusable. Don't want to invest in a firewire card and cable unless you think it will definately work. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks.

You have a good USB driver, Jo. The reason that the video quality is bad is because USB connection provides only highly-compressed, low-resolution video. To get good quality, you'll have to invest in a Firewire card, a Firewire cable, and transfer the video as DV (the highest video quality right now). You can only get DV through the Firewire port. USB port does not support DV transfer, right now.
