I had a TR-7000 that died the same fate. I attempted to bypass the dew sensor but it didn't work. I still have the camera along with a stash of tapes that need to be converted to another format, I'm interested in a proper fix for this.

Thanks Dash, I have a Sony TR700 that was inoperable due to moisture/condensation error. After opening the tape door and searching with a focusing flashlight, I found the 1/8 sq.in. black sensor in the middle of a light brown ribbon cable on a line between the record head and rubber capstan roller. At about 10 o'clock as you look at the head. Some 99% isopropyl on a barely moistened swab fixed the error and saved me $350 for a new camera on this Black Friday.

Thanks Rick, I also have a Sony TR700 that has been inoperable with moisture/condensation error for several years. I preformed the swab cleaning as you perscribed, and I'm back in business. Many Thanks.

Sony DCR-PC101 Moisture...I have tried with mixed success to open the camera, put it in a zip lock baggie with a handful of moisture absorbing packets and let it sit for a couple of weeks. Trying to leach any real moisture out. Then be sure and do the reset-battery off, turn the camera on for 15 seconds, then off, battery back in and turn on with a prayer.

Won't fix a bad sensor but you probably do have moisture in there....

How do you just get rid of the icon. My camera hasn't even been near water, and that damn icon is still there

I've got a Sony DCR-IP210 (Micro DV) purchased in 2003 and suffering the same 'wet' fate (and recently the eject has had problems too - it's hard to "remove the tape to fix the moisture" when eject won't work!). I think I'll have a go at cleaning the sensor as you guys have highlighted (Thx). Can anybody help me with info/links re. where the moisture sensor is on that model plse? I saw another (very technical) site which talked about dodgy surface mount capacitors which can cause this problem (amoung many others) - any views on that? Am I complicating the issue? I guess I should try the more simple cleaning first.

If moisture condensation has occurred, remove any recordable media and then turn off the camcorder for at least one hour. The camcorder can be used again if the warning indicator does not appear when the power is turned on again.

IMPORTANT: If your camcorder uses a cassette tape or DVD, leave the media compartment open for the hour the camcorder is turned off.

Moisture condensation normally occurs when the camcorder is brought directly from a cold place to a warm place. It can condense inside the camcorder, on the recording media, or the lens and cause a malfunction.

To prevent moisture condensation when you bring your camcorder from a cold place into a warm place, put your camcorder in a plastic bag and seal it tightly. Remove the bag when the air temperature inside the plastic bag has reached the surrounding temperature.

try this I work for Sony!!!!!!!!!
