CoolPix Imager RecallInfo on web from Nikon, but it doesnt cover the flash issue. COOLPIX 3100 5700 SQ SERVICE ADVISORY While only a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 5700 and SQ digital cameras are affected by this advisory, if your camera presents symptoms that can include (1) images with a strong color tint, (2) images that are totally black and/or (3) images with visible defects, Nikon will, upon confirmation that the problem is associated to this Service Advisory, service your camera free of charge. See web link for Nikons solution? Falllake2000 I just called Nikon about the problem most of you are having. Nikon suggest that I sent the camera in for repairs. Thanks..Falllake2000...I will let all know the outcome. Jerome Brown I am having the same problem, but I just found out that the place where I purchased my camera sold me a gray market item, although it isn't illegal, Nikon said they can't repair my camera. I paid 1200 for this 5700 and am furious. The camera store in Brooklyn said that I am not in their system, I purchased the camera about 3 years ago. This is ridiculous, my first Sony digital camera still works and that was one of the first that came out. Any suggestions? Barbara Negron I was having the same problem - but Nikon actully repaired it for free. Jag Hello! Thanks for the page. I was afraid my camera was dead as it has the mythical black screen. By the way, I don't know if someone can answer my question. Is there any special battery to use with Coolpix 5700 which can work for long time? Since I got my camera the batteries are dead in a short time of period. See you..
Monica I bought the Nikon Coolpix 5700 used and now I find that I have the black screen issue.I'm wondering if anyone had the free repair that wasn't the original owner. BrianD I too am having problems with my Nikon Coolpix 5700 and the problem(s) seemed to happen overnight with no good cause. First, the flash works, but I get a very dark picture. It seems to be out of sync, that is, the aperture does not open at the instant of flash. It's either before, or after. Second, when I do get a photo, they are all out of focus. And third, which seems to be the most prevalent problem, the monitor in the camera mode is either black, or has white intermittent horizontal lines running through the display screen. I am going to send it off under Nikon's service advisory and hopefully they will fix it free of charge. I will let you know. Gary Scott I'm having the same SB error. Pretty sad Nikon isn't owning up to the design flaw. Leo Nikon told me that they would not repair my 5700. I faxed a letter to the president/ceo and told him that I have been a Nikon user for over 20 years, blah, blah, blah. The service manager contacted me. I sent him my camera, they returned it like new and no charge. I love Nikon. Babs
