Nikon Coolpix 5700 Flash - Mechanical Fix

Just pulled our Nikon Coolpix 5700 out of the closet after 2 years (wife has been using a compact). Both the led screen and view finder are blank so sending it in as per service advisory (free fix). One reason it ended up in the closet is the "speedlight in closed position" message comes up. Has anyone figured out a good fix for this? If I hold the flash up with my fore finger it will take the picture but it is a pain.
