digital camera as a portable image viewer

Hi all I like to ask a question regarding using digital camera as a portable image viewer. Sometimes I need to put the picture back to the camera after a little bit touch-up on computer. I want to show the picture so the client can decide which picture they like to choose. Since not all client own the computer I plan to use my tv/video out in my camera. Unfortunately no all picture can be viewed after being touch-up, sometimes it just show "not contain image data" or "unrecognizable format"? When I compare the picture data on computer it shows that picture taken with my nikon coolpix use 12.7 compression rate, I try to match this rate but the application that I use Canvas lite and ACDsee could only use 12 or 13 compression rate. Is there any software or setting I could use so I can make my picture could be viewed through camera after some touch-up?

I tried it with my Nikon CoolPix 950 today. It's no go. I formatted an image from somewhere else to be exactly the same as the ones generated from the 950 . . . the camera displayed "FILE CONTAINS NO IMAGE DATA", when trying to view that image.

But a copy of the picture recorded by the 950 is ok. And changing the file name from "DSCN0033.JPG" to "hhhh0033.jpg" is ok as well. But changing the name to "ekek3.jpg" is not ok. So it seems that whether the Coolpix will display it or not is not really tied to the filename.

I bet the Coolpix stores some data (perhips in JFIF information) in the image to indicate whether it is recorded by itself.

If it does store the info, its probably in the exif data. My guess is that its just really picky with what it can open because it was only intended to open its own files. But, there is probably still a way to do it, it just might take a bit of messing around to get it right. Try a hex editor if your up for it.

News Flash!

Ewan figured it out by writing a Python script that can save any image into a DCF . . . see the "using Sony digital camera as a picture viewer" for the script.

Hi.
I think I know what's the problem causin the error: "FILE CONTAINS NO IMAGE DATA"
It's because you've tilted the picture to a different angle, if you'll tilt the image back to the original state, it's supposed to work.
I guess it's because the camera's screen doesn't fit to standing pics.
Hope it works for you.

Title: using Sony digital camera as a picture viewer
Weblog: Camera Hacker
Excerpt: I have seen the KODAK EASYSHARE Picture Viewer at CostCo for as low as $99, whereas it retails for $149.95. But you know, I've been thinking, I have a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T11 digital camera that is almost just as small and as light as the KODAK EASYSHARE Picture Viewer. The DSC-T11 is just one inch . . .
