I was at a theme park on the weekend
and i spoted the fact that said camera was a Nikon,
now my question is, how do you get the data off the camera, without having to take it out of camera mode, (D70 switches to mass storage mode when it detects a USB connection). would there be a nice simple way of taking a shot, and sending it to the host computer.

Go to D70 menu. Choose spanner (Setup) menu. Go to USB. Choose PTP instead of Mass storage.
If you have Nikon Capture on your PC, this can be used to trigger the camera and receive the pictures. I haven't fired it up to check again, but I recall it also allows you to automate timed exposures (so you can do time lapse if needed).
