These types of camera generally have a shutter lag of about 1 second. The shutter lag for a DSLR is generally much lower.

It supposed takes 6fps on continuous shots. I think I can live with one sec. I kissed a rebel deal during christmas. Sold out quickly.

If you are talking about frames per second (FPS), then that's completely different than shutter lag. With the ZLR type digital cameras, you are basically looking at a mixed bag. But none of them will match the DSLR in performance.
For example, the FujiFilm HS10 advertieses 10 fps, which is faster than most professional DSLR's on the market. But what they don't tell you in the brochure is that it can only do 10 fps in low-resolution mode. When you shoot full resolution, it takes 15 seconds to save the photo. You can't shoot photos while you are saving. That translates to 1 shot per 15 seconds!

Oh. Hmmm...well, this one does it at full MP but they don't say how long it takes to save it.

The best thing to do is probably to download the P510 user manual from Nikon's web site and read through it. It'll probably tell you mostly what the camera can do (short or the shutter lag).

Okay I'll do that.
