Nikon D7000 ....... "Click with pride"

By Dr. Shameem Alungal

Introduction
It is a more considerably a “serious” feeling camera. The magnesium alloy body, the more deep rubber grip and the 16.2 MP photos make it one of the classic products Nikon have ever thought about. 39-point AF array with 9 cross-type AF points and a new 2016-pixel RGB metering sensor to allow 3D AF tracking makes it a great upgrade to D90 model of Nikon. It is fast, light weight and gives a professional touch to the camera.

Attractions inside
It has the Second highest sizes of sensor at the time of the release of the model. The shutter of this model has been checked OK for 150000 clicks. It uses Pentaprism instead of Pentamirror in other models making the viewfinder image clearer. It has an electronic spirit level in live mode which is very helpful in finding whether the camera is in level. The D7000 is a much more capable video camera than D90 and D300.

Body & Design
The size is very similar to Nikon D90 but still it stands a little above than other DSLRs of Nikon. The memory card door conceals two SD slots and on the sides there are two bulging made of plastic which aids in the lens change even in low light. This is little fattier than its competitors of other brands. Over all the magnesium alloy body and deep rubber grip makes the camera a good replacement to D90 for the customers who uses D90 and need a more serious camera without much adjustment problems to new ergonomics.

Noticeable elements
It has a dedicated bracketing key which makes more easy bracketing and the increments can be specified through menu button. There is a function button which can be assigned many functions like electronic spirit level, dedicated key for NEF recording and to get grid line view etc.

Menu
The noticeably good thing about the elaborate menu function is the ߵrecent settings' which helps to find out the recent settings used to avoid doing everything from the scratch in every occasion.

Touch & Feel
It really gives the feel of upper end enthusiast model. It has a direct video mode in Live View and even if it is heavy, it has fast aperture lens, making it good to use. ISO cannot be seen in the view finder which is a discomfort while shooting. The location of the drive mode dial is annoying to use. Overall, the camera is quick even in the live view mode with autofocus.

Quality of Results
The image quality is very good, but the limiting factor is the bundled 18-105 lens, which is not enough to find out the full capability of the camera, as more able lenses make most out of D7000. But the camera sometimes moves to an overexposure side which has to be taken care while shooting in well exposed areas.

Conclusion
It is very fast and swift in image processing and in continuous mode. Also it shoots well in all the situations but looks a little more overexposed in well lit areas. And the specifications are hard to argue with, as at the point of its release it has all the high end specification one may expect in its price range.
