Video8 and Hi8 to DVD Conversion

Another question as I am not to familiar with the technology here. I want to take all the 8/hi8 and record them onto dvd.. Does anyone know how to do this. Then I am thinking of buying a new camcorder (user friendly) what is the best one out there. little DV/ Smart sticks?? I have no clue. Any feedback would be appreciated.
BTW: my computer does not have the AV adapters to transfer to my computer
