I have recently filmed my first fireworks display with a Panasonic NV-GS15EB camcorder, but unfortunately the intense brightness of the fireworks made them look far less sharp than with the naked eye. Please can you tell me where I am going wrong.

I'm not sure exactly what you are talking about. Do you think you can capture a frame of the video and show us?

Hello sir ,
I have a Sony HDV-FX1 camera and i only film fireworks . Now with the intern microphone the sound is really bad,. I also have the vx2000 where the sound is much better then from the FX1. BUt now i bought a senheisse MKE300 directional microphone wich i have tested and still the sounds is poor.
Can you please help me and tell me what to do. Somebody just told me that i cannot change anything of it because of the hardware's limiter. So i asked if i buy a microphone for 500,- the sound is still poor. He told me yes.
But i love the image of this camera so i want to try 1 more time to make the sounds as i like. Can you help me ? Can you show me a clip of a show filmed by yourself ? Is this guys talking rubish to me or is he right ?
Sorry for my bad english.
Best regards

Toon,
if you want exceptional sound quality, and your Sony HDV-FX1 isn't good enough, how about investing in some really good audio recording equipment. Then recording the video and the sound separately. Later you can re-sync the video and the sound in post-processing?

Toon I recently bought an FX-1 for fireworks filming. Do you have any suggestions for the settings that will work the best? So far the sound has been good from mine, just want to get the most from the video now. Thanks.

I can only speak for the VX-2000 - if you have manual audio level control on then yes it corrupts the audio. In order to have 'non-corrupted' audio you need to leave the audio in 'auto' mode. However, there is a modification that can be performed on the camera to allow the manual audio to be corruption free. If you search for vx-2000 or any of it's cousins you will likely find people offering this modification for $100-$300 online. I'm not a A/V biggot yet so I just live with the auto-mode audio selection for now.

If the camera mentioned in the article is "specifically designed" to work in the 16x9 mode, then no, you wouldn't "lose data from the top and bottom of the screen." Older 4x3 cameras "lose" top and bottom information because they simply letterbox or mask the top and bottom of the screen. It is true that you "lose" the side data, however.

Help!!!!! I've shot fireworks before and had fairly good results, but haven't shot them in a while. Does anyone know what white balance setting is best for shooting the fireworks? I've got a job covering the fireworks for the Superbowl party the evening before in Tempe Arizona at over the Mill Ave Bridges. Being that there are no previews, I've got to get it right from the start. Anyone have any tech info...... You can also call me at 480-443-3424 if you'd like. Thanks Much, Cliff

Is a U/V or a FL filter a good though, Do fireworks put out that witch the eye can't see. this is something i will try w/my 3ccd cam. I just think the color can be better.
By the way the further away you are the more defuse fireworks get do to humidity.

Most digital cameras and camcorders have UV/IR filters built into them. These filters block out ultraviolet and infrared light. Sony camcorders lets you remove the UV/IR filters via the "NightShot" switch.
