I have a Sony Digital Hanycam DCR-PC5 and I record student theater productions, among other family activities. The school has a sophisticated sound mixing board for the on-stage microphones and music. When I connect my camera's audio in to the mixer, I get a very annoying background hissing sound on the audio track. Both the board and the camera are plugged into the same ac circuit. With the internal microphone, there is no hissing, but the overall sound quality is not great given the distance from the stage. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the hissing sound so I can use the audio feed from the mixer?
Thanks!
Mark

I think you need to narrow down what's causing the hissing first, before you can find a solution to the problem. It could be the microphone, the mixer, the camcorder audio port, or the cables.
First thing to do is to connect the mic directly to the camcorder and see if you have hissing and go from there.
