Can't Mount Tape in CCD-TRV93

My CCD TRV93 would not lower the tape into the compartment for recording or playback. When the close the door shut, I hear a feeble mechanical noise trying to lower the compartment but doesn't move a millimeter. I can eject the tape with one or two tries on the eject button or flipping switches.

Ironic that without the tape in the tape compartment, the compartment lowers itself fine every single time.

An update. After following some of the suggestions on comparable models, I tried the whacking the camera coupled with using compressed air to blow out dirt plus hair dryer routine. Now the camera loads the cassette and plays it fine. However, the record button does not work fully. I have to keep it pressed for it to record. If I take my hands off the record button, the camera goes to standby mode.

BTW, in the process of whack, compressed air, blow dry, I did encounter a couple of tries of tape lowering with an error message C 31:40.
