I just purchased this camera. I have 6 old tapes that I want to get to my computer, so I went to a pawn shop and found this camera for a Hundred bucks (still seems like a great deal). I also own a TRV20, but it only plays the dv tapes. Everything on the 350 seems to work but it didn't come with a manual and when I plug in from the I-link (camera) to my xp desktop (I-link) the computer sees nothing and I noticed that on the camera display that it says DV in(when I plug in the cable). My question is; can this setting be changed to "out". Since I cant find it in the menu I wonder if there is a malfunction. I would have tried the USB plug on the camera but I don't have this cable and live in a town where its not available.
Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

If you see DV IN on the camcorder, then the camcorder has detected the Firewire cable. Your computer is not seeing it. It's most likely a driver problem. Or it might be the Firewire cable. Next possibility is the Firewire port on your computer.
What operating system are you using? If you are using Windows XP, you can try the suggestion in the "Fixing the Windows XP Firewire Problem" article in the TrackBack below.

Hi Chieh; I very much apprieciate your reply and I too was thinking of a driver problem since I got another cable and tried it. Same problem and I also found that both cameras are found by my vista laptop, but not by the XP desktop. I followed the link as per your suggestion and tried uninstalling the driver , then restarted. The driver did reinstall but didn't function. At this point I went online and tried to update the driver but to no avail.
It's strange but this computer used to run this function just fine and I haven't made any changes to it so I am at a loss to understand. Do you perhaps have any other suggestions I could try. I'm a little computer dumb so any tips are very welcome and apprieciated.
Thanks again.

Is there an exclamation mark next to the IEEE 1394 driver in Device Master?

Hi Chieh; I double checked "Device Manager" and no there is no explanation mark there. I am beginning to think that this has to be a hardware problem so I'll need to open her up when I get some time. Something I should mention is that the power supply had calfed on this computer so I replaced it(I dont think I used the I-link since) and I'm thinking that there might be something awry in a wiring harness.
I'll let you know of any further development, and thank you again for your assistance.

Hello again Chieh: I just thought I'd let you know in case your interested that my problem with firewire was in fact related to an internal problem. when my son replaced the power supply perhaps 8 months ago. He must have nudged a wire loose which was easily fixed of course once I discovered it .. Thanks for your assistance however since it set me on the right track.

Title: Fixing the Windows XP Firewire Problem
Weblog: Camera Hacker
Excerpt: I've had a similar problem with a Sony HC42 camcorder with my Windows XP Dell. After three years of connecting it to my Dell via firewire, a month ago Windows XP quit recognizing the camcorder. On the device manager, there was a yellow mark by the camera's item as unknown. After long searches, inclu . . .
