DCR-TRV280 importing to computer problem

I have a Sony DCR-TRV280 video camcorder. This is my first camera. I installed the software that came with it-Picture Package 1.5 for handycam. I did everything it said about connecting using the firewire cable. And it still wont load my videos on to my computer. I need to get it on for a school project so i need help fast!
