I have searched EVERYWHERE......

This shouldn't be that difficult. Perhaps I'm not as bright as I think I am.

I own a Sony Handycam, model DCR-HC36.

All I want to do is load the video into my computer and burn a DVD with the time/date code visible on the DVD.

Computer is an E Machines 6212, OS is XP and I have the USB cable for connecting.

Please help. What do I need to do to get this accomplished?

Thank you,

Mike

I don't know if it is possible with the USB connection. The DV Time Codes is only available in the DV format, which requires the Firewire cable.

If you don't already know how to get the video to your computer take a look at all of the articles listed under "Digital Video" category. Once you get the video transfer to the computer worked out (hopefully with the DV time codes), then we'll figure out how to show the DV time codes on your video.

Cheih,

Thank you. I bought a Firewire cable today. I transferred some video to Windows Movie Maker rand it worked fine. Now what?

I think I may need to put it in a different format other than WMV.

Let's face it, I'm completely lost.

Thanks again,

Mike

Yah, you need to save it as DV format. You can do this by selecting "Digital device format (DV-AVI)" in Windows Media Maker. If you need some help with that, take a look at the "Capturing DV with Microsoft Windows Movie Maker" article.

Ok. Once you have captured the DV file, use DVdate (Freeware) to inlay the date and time stamp into a copy of your DV file. Once you have the new DV file with the date/time inlay, you can burn the file to DVD (see the "Authoring DVD with Microsoft Windows Media Center " article on authoring your own DVD).
