Hello everybody!
I'm an RC pilot and FPV enthusiast and I was about to start using my Sony Handycam DCR-HC30E to record the live video coming from my RC plane. I didn't use the camera for quite a long time and the poor batteries were dead. So I wanted to feed 7.2v from a LiPo battery pack directly to the DC in plug because in the field I cant use the AC/DC adapter as I have no AC current there. I cut the DC cable and connected the LiPo pack directly to the camera. Nothing! I checked, and nothing! I double checked and realized I was mistaken by the color on the cables. Normally the black cable is ground and the black cable with a white stripe is the positive one. In this case it was the opposite and this means I connected the cable to my with reversed polarity. Now the camera won't turn on. Nothing. Not even the LEDs.
This is probably a minor damage to some protection circuit in the camera board. I opened it up and nothing is burnt.
I think the damage is in the main board which is where the DC plug is connected to.
Am I thinking right?
How can I be certain where the damage is?
Also where can I buy this kind of electronic part?

I don't know if you have any spare batteries to check if the camcorder is really dead or not. Also, you can rewire the AC connector back onto the adapter (correctly this time ;-)) and see if the camcorder is truly dead or alive.
But if you are thinking of getting a new camera, you might want to look into the Contour ROAM. It's small and convenient enough to attach to your RC plane.

Yes I have one spare battery that is also dead. I checked both with a voltmeter and I tried to charge them with my RC charger that has all the bells and whistles for all types of batteries.
About rewiring the connector back to the adapter, I did that and it didn't turn on.
I'm not willing to buy an on-board camera it is the video from my FPV video Rx I want to record.
Thanks
