Sony DCR-HC28 handycam- correcting nearsightedness??

Recently acquired a Sony DCR-HC28 with nightshot capability. I wanted the nightshot to have full capabilities like normal mode, so I removed the IR filter (just removing the microswitch wasn't enough). This IR filter removal was a tough job and I was really worried that I would damage the camera, but after putting back together, everything works... except now the camera appears to be nearsighted. I can't focus on anything close in normal mode. My understanding is that I should have replaced the removed IR filter with a glass blank of the same size and thickness, but I'd prefer not to open the camera again. Is there any way to correct the nearsightedness externally like with an additional lens? Or, better yet, nightshot doesn't use the IR filter and yet doesn't appear blurred. Is there a circuit mod that would allow full capabilities while in nightshot mode?

Thanks in advance for your response,
Bill
