Hi, and thanks for your excellent review on HC90. I had almost decided to buy one for myself, but then I found that it has no external mic-in. That is somethiing I really need as I will use it for interviews. But it's also improtant with good low-light performance. Is there another camera you can recommend on these terms?

Hi Magnus, it was a real disappointment that Sony did not put an standard mic jack on te DCR-HC90. And if they had produced a standard mic adapter for the Active Interface Shoe, it would have greatly helped. You might consider the Sony Gun Zoom Microphone ECM-HGZ1 if you are set on buying the DCR-HC90. I have good experience with it for recording voice and interviews.

Title: converting AIS to mic audio jack
Weblog: Camera Hacker
Excerpt: Sony Active Interface Shoe. Shame on Sony for not providing an external mic input. I've found that the easiest mic to sacrifice to mount a jack is the ECM-HST1. You can pop off the front wind screen and get to the stereo elements. There is space enough on the back to mount a mini jack above the swit . . .
