First my HVR-A1P told me it could not record because the safety tab on the tape was not set to record. But it was in the record position and I tried several new tapes but still could not record. Then it started telling me to reinsert the cassette. Then it showed a 32 something error (I can't remember what the second number was). As per the user manual I pressed the reset button. Now the LCD opens with the date set screen but the touch controls do not respond and the tape housing refuses to retract into the body. I've tried all the plug and unplug tricks but to no avail. The problem now is that because this is regarded as a professional camera Sony want to charge the professional rates to quote for repair, which are three times the consumer rate. The only thing that makes this camera 'professional' is the XLR attachment which is nothing to do with my current problem. Otherwise the body is identical to the HDR-HC1, which is not regarded as professional. This is unfair of Sony. Is there anything I can do to fix it myself?
