Sony TRV20E not recognised by Windows

I have just completed a clean install of windoze zp pro, I have installed Nero 7 and Ulead DVD Studio
My Sony TRV20E is not recognised by XP.
I have tried SVideo, Firewire and USB, nothin, not even the welcome to the new hardware wizard when I turn on the Cam to VCR and play.
As there is no yellow exclamation mark in the device Manager I am assuming that the cam is just not being seen as opposed to being seen but not having the correct driver.
With 3 different DV Authoring packages there is NO device available for capture.
I do not have the original discs for the cam as I got it over 3 years ago on ebay.
My thoughts are that the firewire port on the cam may be fried, as this seems to be common with Sony, But how can I check this?

Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

Please let me know what other information you may need to help fix this.

Did you turn the camcorder on while plugged into the computer? Was it in Camera mode or VTR mode? Try both modes.

Hello... Im no export with cameras, but I also have an TRV20E since 2000 and I was only able to transfer video to a Sony Vaio long time ago when I was visiting a friend... years passed and never again I was able to transfer or get different PC;s with OS to recognized my videos.. until recently when I recommended my sister to buy an Imac and one day I just gave it a try and it worked 100%....

The only problem now its the camera which needs maintenance.

I don;t think its the firewire disable or fried.. I even try different cables, computers, laptops, etc.. it simply never worked... only in 2-3 occasions with my friends Sony Laptop.

One more thing, 2 month ago i change to Mac with a MiniMac and its working perfect...

Sony TRV20E its PAL, but I'm in a NTSC area so I was never able to even see my videos on TV... this camera is able to transfer from VHS or any other Analog device thru the Camera to the Computer, unfortunately it seems that it can not convert.. so I would see to buy a different camera NTSC for tranfering all my 8mm, VHS, Beta & other formats to my Mac.
